EOC Middle
IdrettOpprettet av Jørn Sundby 31 mai, 2008 10:51:02The first runners has started on today Middle distance at EOC. From what we saw on the qualifications it should be a technical race, and some favorites went out already yesterday.
The swiss runners are normally strong in all kinds of terrains, but yesterday it seems like they had some problems. So I have a top six ohne Swiss runners today.
Men:
1. Thierry Gueorgiou
2. Martins Sirmais
3. Emil Wingstedt
4. Valentin Novikov
5. David Andersson
6. Pasi Ikonen
No surprises there, but I must say I am not sure about Sirmais. He should be a big favorite, but has not been a strong this spring and this championship. So it's a wild guess, really. Thierry lost his first big race in over a year in the sprint, and the final race should suit him pefectly.
Women:
1. Minna Kauppi
2. Helena Jansson
3. Anne Margrethe Hausken
4. Heli Jukkola
5. Tatiana Riabkina
6. Emma Engstrand
Also a "safe bet". Kauppi looked strong in qualification and has been very impressive in this kind og terrain earlier. Jansson is also technically really good. Normally this is not the best terrain for Hausken, and her getting a medal today would be very impressive and a big step for her. But she's in top form and could make another trip to the podium.
Probably some surprise will hit the lists somewhere, and some outsiders could be Kärner, Nordberg and Öberg among the men, Pauzaite, Søes and Gustafsson in the womens race.
