2x Hausken and Russian surprise
IdrettOpprettet av Jørn Sundby 28 mai, 2008 17:40:57With Heli Jukkola not starting, my betting for Womens class was lost before it started. The womens class in the EOC's longdistance became somewhat reduced when the two World Champions from Ukraina; Kauppi and Jukkola not starting, and Simone not competing.
But for the runners who are competing- you can not do more than win. And Hausken did it again; great for her and for us Norwegians on a day with quite large time gaps in the womens class. No one has previously won three gold medals in an European Championship, so there is a chance now for Hausken to do something not even Simone have managed. And she has two races left to do it.
The mens EOC long was quite close to have the same three runners on the podium as I predicted. But one surprise sprung; Russian Dimitriy Tsvetkov.
Tsvetkov was a surprise five years ago in quite similar terrain in Estonia when he took the JWOC gold on long distance, fighting with Merz and Hubmann there as well. And we haven't seen him much since then. As far as I remember Tsvetkov comes from the area around St.Petersburg, so he should be used to flat and fast terrains.
No success for the Norwegians, even though an 8th place for Audun Weltzien is a good result.
And when I read that the French team had no men in the long final, then perhaps we know what to expect in the weekend?!
